Finance Controller
About the role
The Finance Controller will be responsible for the financial accounting, consolidation, reporting, and operational treasury of the group’s international entities. Based in Malta, this role ensures accurate financial records, compliance with local regulations, and timely reporting to the CFO and the board. The Finance Controller will collaborate closely with the Accounting Team Lead (Spain) to standardize accounting processes across jurisdictions and support the development of consolidated financial reporting.
The position requires strong technical accounting skills, experience in multinational environments, and the ability to operate independently while coordinating with cross-functional teams and external service providers.
Key Responsibilities
International Accounting & Financial Reporting
Manage the month-end close process for group entities, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with local GAAP and IFRS standards.
Prepare financial statements, journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and support documentation for internal and external reporting of some of the entities.
Oversee intercompany transactions, reconciliations, and alignment with group accounting policies.
Coordinate with local accounting firms during transition phases and ensure proper migration of accounting tasks in-house where applicable.
Maintain general ledgers and ensure proper classification of revenue, cost of sales, OPEX, and tax-related entries.
Audit & Compliance
Liaise with external auditors in Malta and other jurisdictions, providing required documentation and ensuring timely completion of statutory audits.
Ensure compliance with local regulatory, tax, and financial reporting requirements across jurisdictions.
Monitor VAT, corporate tax, withholding tax, and other cross-border compliance obligations, escalating risks or irregularities.
Treasury & Cash Management
Oversee day-to-day banking activities for international entities, including payments, reconciliations, and bank documentation.
Monitor cash balances, forecast short-term liquidity needs, and prepare weekly cash flow reports.
Coordinate international cash movements, intercompany settlements, and payment schedules to suppliers and stakeholders.
Support implementation of treasury controls and tools to improve accuracy and visibility of cash positions.
Process Improvement & ERP Enablement
Support the standardization of month-end close procedures across countries, working closely with the Accounting Team Lead to implement consistent workflows.
Promote best practices in ERP usage, replacing manual processes with system-driven workflows where possible.
Contribute to internal process documentation, control improvements, and automation initiatives across the finance function.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work with AR, AP, and Iberia Accounting teams to align international operations with overall group finance processes.
Support the CFO with financial analysis, consolidation inputs, and ad-hoc reporting for decision-making.
Assist in the integration of new entities or business units into the group’s accounting and reporting framework.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; professional certifications (ACCA, CPA, ACA, or equivalent) are a strong advantage.
Minimum 5–7 years of experience in accounting roles, preferably in multinational organizations or experience in audit in Big4 firms.
Strong knowledge of IFRS.
Experience in gaming, fintech, SaaS, or other high-volume transactional environments is a plus.
Fluency in English is required.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial management tools.
Ability to work independently while collaborating with remote teams across countries.
